Epoxy Curing Agents Are Increasing Being Developed In Newer Forms by Manufacturers All Over The World
Epoxy Curing Agents are used to cure epoxy resins that are
in various applications. There are a number of different types of epoxy
curing agents in the market. They are classified based on their end uses and
regions. Epoxy curing agents are also used in wind energy, which is anticipated
to witness a high growth rate. Its development is predicted to provide many
opportunities for manufacturers.
According to a study by Coherent
Market Insights, the global
epoxy curing agents market was valued
at US$ 1,316.9 million in 2016 and is expected to witness a CAGR of 4.9%, in terms of revenue, over
the forecast period (2017 – 2025).
Epoxy curing agents are found in coatings, adhesives,
composites, and electrical and electronic insulation. These resins cross-link
through secondary hydroxyl groups. Amidoamine systems are widely used for
curing epoxies at room temperature. Another innovative approach is the use of a
water-soluble curing agent on a Mannich base. Both these approaches offer a
number of advantages, including increased solvent resistance, good thermal
stability, and a long pot life.
One of the most commonly used acid anhydrides is hexahydrophthalic
anhydride. Anhydrides that contain a phenolic hydroxyl group are known to be
faster curing agents. Similarly, the acid anhydride with a tetraethylenediamine
group is known to offer higher electrical properties than aromatic amines.
Apart from these traditional epoxies, manufacturers are
developing newer forms of epoxy
curing agents. Aside from offering superior cure rates, these newer
forms of epoxies also come with variable reactivity profiles. For instance, one
water-soluble curing agent from Cardolite Corporation is NX-8101, which is
compatible with most standard epoxy dispersions and offers fast curing. Other
properties such as low odor and easy reduction in water make the product an
ideal solution for industrial coatings. In March 2020, Gabriel Performance
Products, a leader in specialty chemicals based in the U.S. launched its novel
epoxy curing agent, VERSACURE RAC 9040 and RAC 9010UV designed for clear
coatings, countertop, and tabletop applications.
