The bicycle is a marvelous piece of engineering, it can be intimidating to the new rider. There is a lot of jargon that needs to be understood, and bike brands seem to like coming up with different ways of doing things.

A wheel hub is just a center part of a wheel that houses bearings and attaches to the outer portion of the rim. The hub also has a nut to hold it in place. There are many different kinds of hubs, including a cassette hub that allows to shift gears by hand. A cassette hub can have up to 12 gears, depending on the size of the bike and the type of bicycle.

The global bicycle and components market is estimated to account for US$ 54,735.3 Mn in 2019 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.5% during the forecasted period (2019-2027)

Another important part is the frame, which is the main structure of the bike. The frame is made of aluminum, carbon fiber or steel and it has tubes that go up and down to support the other parts of the bike. The frame can be a simple design or it can have extra components such as suspension to make it more comfortable for off-road riding or a suspension fork for smoothing out bumps on the road.

The crankset consists of the chainrings, which the chain goes around, and the crank arms that connect to them. On a single speed bike, there is only one chainring, while on a geared bike, there will be up to 3. The crankset then connects to the rear axle by the bottom bracket and to the rider, by the pedals.

The pedals are the spinning interface between the feet and the bicycle. There are two main types of pedals: flat/platform pedals which simply rest on the feet, and clip-in pedals that require special shoes with cleats in them to attach to the pedals more securely.

Other bike parts include a bell, basket and reflectors. There are also plugs for the ends of the handlebars that prevent the bare tubing from stabbing, in case of a crash and bar tape, which is the cloth that wraps around the bars to provide padding and grip. The seat post, which is a rod that connects the saddle to the frame. The seat post can be made from many materials, and there are even some that power lights or charge batteries for accessories.

FELT Bicycles was acquired by PIERER Mobility AG in November 2021. This acquisition will expand their operations in North America and also help in serving to customers that are demanding customization.
