Condom; Helps Reduce the Chances of Pregnancy and Sexually Transmitted Diseases
A condom is a thin, fitted tube worn over the penis during
sex (male condoms) or inserted into the vagina before sex (female condoms). A
male condom usually made of latex is worn on the penis. While some of them are
made of materials that are safe for people with latex allergies, such as
polyisoprene or polyurethane. Female condoms are a barrier method of
contraception worn inside the vagina. They prevent pregnancy by stopping sperm
meeting an egg. A female condom is also made from materials safe for people
with latex allergies.

A condom is often used during sexual intercourse to reduce
the probability of pregnancy or a sexually transmitted infection. According to
the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1 million sexually transmitted
infections (STIs), such as syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis,
are acquired every day across the globe, majority of which are asymptomatic.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chlamydia
was the most commonly reported STD in the U.S., with over 1.8 million cases
reported in 2019.
Thus, with the rise in prevalence of sexually transmitted
disease (STD) or sexually transmitted infection (STI) worldwide, the demand for
condoms is also increasing with a rapid pace. Third of men and a quarter of
U.S. women use condoms when they have sex, a CDC survey finds. A female condom
can be put into vagina before sex, but make sure the penis does not come into
contact with the vagina before the condom has been put in. Female condoms are
95% effective in preventing pregnancy, while male condoms are 98% percent
effective.
Condoms are great at preventing both pregnancy and STDs. Most
people can use condoms with no problem, there are no side effects. Latex
condoms are the most widely available and are not expensive, so are the first
choice for many couples. Rarely, latex (a rubber) condoms can cause irritation
for people with latex allergies or sensitivities.
