EMI shielding materials are materials used to prevent damages to the electronic devices/equipment due to electromagnetic interference. EMI shielding (electromagnetic interference shielding) refers to the shielding of radio wave or microwave radiation so that radiation essentially cannot penetrate the shield, which serves as a radiation barrier. The main purpose of shielding is to prevent EMI or radio frequency interference (RFI) from impacting sensitive electronics. EMI shielding materials or solutions help protect a device from external radiation and prevent that device from emitting radiation that could cause interference with other devices.

Global EMI shielding materials market was valued at US$ 8.01 Bn in 2021 in terms of revenue, exhibiting a CAGR of 5.67 % during the forecast period (2022 to 2030).

EMI shielding is the use of manufacturing techniques and materials to protect signals from being disrupted by external electromagnetic signals and preventing generated signals from interfering with surrounding components. It is process of reducing interference from external electromagnetic signals that can disrupt function of electronic devices. Of all the metals in EMI shielding, copper is the most reliable because it works best at reducing both magnetic and electrical waves. One can find copper in just about any place needing EMI shielding from hospital equipment to basic home computers. It is highly effective in attenuating magnetic and electrical waves.

Electromagnetic interference (EMI) can affect any type of electronic device, including cell phone. EMF shielding devices for cell phones protects cell phones by reducing amount of electromagnetic waves coming from the phone and blocking incoming interference. With the help of EMI shielding devices, a cell phone is less likely to affect surrounding devices, and surrounding devices are less likely to affect the cell phone. An array of digital chips (installed inside the phone) are shielded, allowing phone to function normally while still receiving adequate protection. A shielding protects the parts of phone that control wireless LAN, radio frequency, and Bluetooth.

EMI Shielding in electronic devices is the use of manufacturing techniques and materials to protect signals from being disrupted by external electromagnetic signals as well as preventing generated signals from interfering with surrounding components. EMI shielding materials help to block the incoming interference while also limiting EMI leaking from parts of a device. The shield surrounds either sensitive electronics or transmitting electronics in the device. As signals reach a device, the screen absorbs them, causing the current within its body. Due to high conductivity, metals like copper, gold, silver, nickel, and aluminum are frequently used in EMI shielding.

EMI shielding is the practice of using various countermeasures to protect electrical and electronic devices from EMI. Thus, there is an increase in demand for EMI shielding materials worldwide, especially in the U.S. and India due to increase in demand for electronic devices.
